Description

The historic heart of Mechelen beats here, near the Botanic Gardens and the idyllic Dijle. On foot to Bruul, Grote Markt, but also the railway station is nearby and easy access to the E19, R6 and other approach roads.

It should come as no surprise that this spacious 1889 mansion is classified as historical heritage. Incredibly many authentic elements have been preserved, such as the sumptuous moulures, parquet floors, marble, fireplace mantles, connecting doors and stately entrance hall with staircase.

Over the past few years, a total renovation of this former notary's house was started, with the aim of transforming the place into a boutique hotel with 6 (licensed) bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms (piping provided). The historic façade shines back like it used to, and the roof, windows and all the technology have already been renewed too. Downstairs you have room for a high-end restaurant, living spaces and kitchen, while the top floor has everything you need to furnish a duplex loft of more than 150 m2. Wine cellar, mancave and technical rooms on -1. The lift shaft and emergency staircase have also already been installed.

The gigantic 600 m2 garden is a dream setting for hosting parties or just relaxing in peace and quiet.

Continuing as an exclusive boutique hotel is just one of the many possibilities with this property - fantastic family home, co-housing, upscale restaurant or residential with practice are certainly also viable avenues. Those wishing to do so can create additional floors or a complete new build on the left-hand plot No 18.

Unique historical heritage with enormous potential that demands a unique interpretation.

The owner,

owner speaks out

This was our dream property, our future, our big plan. Almost by chance, we stumbled upon this magnificent mansion - and our mouths fell open. Our dream of opening a boutique hotel in our beloved Mechelen could suddenly really come true.... We started the renovations full of ideas and plans, until it was March 2020 and corona threw a spanner in the works.

My quiet dream is that someone else now picks up the thread, and can give this exceptional, historical heritage back the grandeur of yesteryear.
