During the 19th century, the Markgrave district was home to wealthy citizens, artists, merchants and pensioners. Today it is a residential area with residential allure. The neighbourhood is rich in beautiful architecture, which we were able to admire, under the guidance of Jo Braecken.

We meet at Café Kamiel. From this point, our walk starts. Immediately we are introduced to neo-Renaissance styles art-nouveau. From the Markgravelei, we meet the Van Putlei. We experience beautiful architecture: cottage houses, art-nouveau, eclectic bourgeois houses and, finally, neo-rococo style.

AaAfterwards, we go to Bosmanslei and Arthur Goemaerelei. Here we admire, among other things, the architect's house by Daniël Rosseels, the architect's house by Louis de Vooght and the Verswijver housing complex by Paul Smekens.

After the brisk walk, Immodôme will treat you to a hot coffee.
