Description

Residential area. Close to Mechelen and centrally located to Brussels, Leuven and Antwerp. 1 km from school and village centre. Also nearby: Hofstade Plage, a large park with trendy beach bar Zuiderbad, renamed into an atmospheric winter bar in autumn. Movies on the beach, picnics, to the playground or play forest - there is always something to do here.

On the right, the original 70s bungalow by renowned architect Gerard Cools, restyled by B-bis architects - on the left, the office/atelier they added. Glass and closed walls alternate for maximum garden views on all sides. Rhythmically integrated mirror walls reflect the surrounding greenery - a phenomenal makeover.

Doors and cabinets in wenge, wooden ceilings, cork finishes, headwood parquet, and copper as a nod to the 70s. Even storage spaces blend in with style thanks to sophisticated custom-made furniture.

Entrance hall with cloakroom. Living area with wall cabinets, built-in JBL amplifiers, sleek built-in fireplace for winter warmth. Cosy sitting area, space for desk. Dining area with hanging bar cabinet, kitchen on orange tiles, storage room. The lush west-facing garden (185 trees!) is blissful.

Bathroom with double washbasin and bath. Separate toilet. 1st bedroom on parquet, en suite shower room and lovely patio views. 2nd bedroom on parquet, dressing room. Indoor garage, electric charging point at driveway. Good to know: this is a coveted film and photo shoot location with great returns.

owner speaks out

Ever since we were little - each separately!- we dreamt of a 70s architect's house with a courtyard garden. Never could we have dreamed that one day we would actually live in such a gem! The house is right down to the smallest detail: all day long, you experience the added value of a home designed specifically for this location and orientation. It is blissful to wake up in the bedrooms that give out onto the courtyard garden, during the day we work in peace in our office surrounded by greenery, and towards evening we enjoy golden hour on the terrace or at the dining table. Gerard Cools, the architect of the ground floor, and B-bis architects, who designed the new block in mirror glass, created a house that is not only a feast for the eyes, but also a gift to live in every day. You understand that it was hard to take the step to sell our dream home, but the dream of taking a trip around the world with our daughter was just a tad bigger....
