Description

The Strijdhoflaan still radiates the elegance of another era. Wide avenues, stately façades, and a remarkable sense of calm give the Pulhof district its charming village atmosphere, right in the heart of the city. Within walking distance are local shops, schools, restaurants, and the kind of intimate addresses that make daily life effortlessly enjoyable. The greenery of Middelheim Park and Brilschans Park is also close by. A neighbourhood where elegance, tranquillity, and urban connectivity come together naturally.

“Gai Séjour” — a name that evokes joyful days and lightness, even when the rain taps softly against the windows. Behind the elegant façade of this 1930 townhouse unfolds a home where authenticity meets contemporary comfort. Designed by architect Pierre De Jongh, the property has undergone a meticulous renovation in recent years, including a thorough refurbishment in 2016 and a complete redesign of the ground floor in 2023. The impressive entrance hall immediately sets the tone with its marble herringbone flooring: warm, refined, and timeless. Original mouldings, curved lines, and restored parquet floors bring character to every room.

On the ground floor, serenity and elegance blend seamlessly. The living area features bespoke cabinetry, integrated storage, and a high-end gas fireplace as its central focal point. At the rear of the house, the luxurious kitchen by Oyster Studio forms the true heart of the home. The generous marble worktop, sophisticated materials, and views over the garden create a space designed for living — from long breakfasts to evenings shared with friends around the table. The fully redesigned garden, conceived by Duo Verde, feels like a secluded green oasis in the city. Thoughtful landscaping, an irrigation system, and complete privacy create a rare sense of tranquillity, hidden within the sought-after Pulhof neighbourhood.

The upper floors offer four bedrooms and two bathrooms, including a stylish Mortex bathroom with double washbasin and spacious walk-in shower. The house also benefits from a full basement, providing extensive additional storage space.

A home where every detail has been chosen with care, yet never feels distant or overly formal. “Gai Séjour” bears its name for good reason: it is a residence that invites you to embrace life slowly and beautifully.

Some houses are beautifully renovated. Others are given a soul.
“Gai Séjour” in the Pulhof district is one of those rare places: a home filled with light, character, and memories, where city and village life merge effortlessly.

owner speaks out

Living in Pulhof taught us just how beautiful city life can feel when everything suddenly becomes close at hand. Mornings when we would slowly walk the children to school through the car-free street, stopping by the bakery or butcher afterwards, enjoying a coffee at our favourite café or spontaneously lingering at a nearby restaurant around the corner. These small rituals give the neighbourhood the feeling of a village in the heart of the city. What truly made Pulhof special for us, however, were the people. Neighbours became friends, existing friendships found space to deepen, and on summer evenings there was always someone joining us around the table.
This house, too, gradually became part of our story. We fell in love with its architecture, its original features, and the distinctive façade that brings character to every single day. The renovation was intense, yet it also gave us the feeling of creating something lasting. Above all, the garden became a place full of life: a small urban oasis where barbecues, long evenings, and memories naturally accumulated over time. It feels strange to say goodbye to a place that holds so much of our lives. This home and this neighbourhood will always remain connected to a very special chapter of our story.
