Description

Talk about a perfect location: only an idyllic stream separates the large natural garden from the 65-hectare Vrijbroekpark – an unbeatable backyard! Also close to Mechelen’s city centre, with shops, restaurants, the train station, main roads, and countless cycling and walking routes along the canal and the Dijle. Moreover, the street is currently being transformed into a cycling street.

This modern, white cube house has been completely renovated in Bauhaus style since 2009. Large windows, a patio, and skylights provide abundant natural light and uninterrupted views of greenery.

Open entrance hall with cloakroom and guest toilet. Next to the kitchen, there’s a unique patio with Winckelmans tiles – perfect for enjoying breakfast in the morning sun. At the street side, there’s room for an office or multifunctional space. From the dining area, a few steps lead down to the sunken living area with a wood-burning fireplace and stunning views of the garden. An additional office space with a full wall of bookshelves completes the ground floor, which also features underfloor heating.

A floating steel staircase leads to the first floor with three (children’s) bedrooms, built-in wardrobes and desks, resin floors, two bathrooms, and a master bedroom with a dressing room and yet another stunning garden view.

The fantastic south-facing natural garden includes a terrace, space for chickens, cosy sitting areas, a wooden garden shed with a lovely evening terrace, and at the back, your own forest, bordering the Vrijbroekpark – a treat for nature lovers! You can store your bikes in the spacious bike shed at the front, where you’ll also find two convenient parking spaces. Waterproof cellar.

A must-see for those who want to live in Mechelen and be surrounded by nature.

owner speaks out

This spacious, light-filled, and incredibly cosy house, with its large, natural garden, was the perfect home for our family of four growing children, one wire-haired dachshund, and four chickens. We’ve shared many wonderful times here! But now that our youngest daughters are leaving for university, the house has become too large for us, and we are moving to a smaller place. We hope that another family will soon enjoy the bright, flowing spaces, the lovely morning terrace off the kitchen, with its many plants and Winckelmans tiles, the cosy sitting room with its wood-burning fireplace, or the authentic 50s arched doorway in the dining room, inspired by the Bauhaus Meisterhäuser and Huib Hoste. Our favourite spot? The small terrace by the wooden garden shed, where you can relax in the evening sun, overlooking the old beech trees of the adjoining Vrijbroekpark... In the summer, you are surrounded by lush greenery. In winter, when the stream is frozen, you can cross the ice from the garden into the park and skate on the ponds. And when the leaves have all fallen, you can see the shimmering park ponds from the living room – a breathtaking, expansive, and priceless view. What makes this place so special is its location, just outside the city centre, nestled between the green landscapes along the Dijle and Zenne rivers, with the Robbroek and Thiebroekbos nature reserves at one end of the street and Vrijbroekpark at the other. A place that will be truly missed!
