Description

Cosy, dead-end street in small-scale neighbourhood (protected townscape!) on the peaceful Leuvense Vaart. Walking distance from the city centre, close to the station, schools and E19.

Picture yourself a monumental modernist home, and chances are it will look like this property by top architect Jos Chabot. All the elements are there - steel window frames, 10m façade width, elegant stained glass, magnificent rooms and ditto light, warm wood, Winckelman tiles, characteristic colours, interior doors with iroko veneer... You name it.

At the same time, since 2006 the house has been almost completely renovated: solar panels, charging post, roof, water supply, electricity, concrete works, windows, Van Ruysdael glass, kitchen... Restored according to the rules of art, finished down to the last detail.

Magnificent entrance hall. XL living on oak parquet and stunning, round bay window with chair profile and pivoting, curved glass (pivot windows), even a curved panel radiator. The kitchen has a dream cooker AGA with 2 ovens. The terrace extends the full width of the house - a lovely spot for breakfast in the morning sun overlooking the lush, deep garden.

1st floor: insanely handsome room (now office) with 12-piece steel framed windows. At the back 2 large bedrooms, also on parquet. The original bathroom has a lot of cachet, but requires renovation. Basement with 2 more bedrooms on the garden side, 2nd bathroom with sauna and shower and multi-purpose room for fitness and storage.

Unrivalled modernism by Jos Chabot, restored to contemporary standards in a unique location with great love for the original.

Location

Gerestaureerd modernisme van Chabot aan de Leuvense Vaart
A no-nonsense house with beautiful, authentic details and lovely light.

owner speaks out

From the beginning, we were attracted to the special steel windows. We love their design: they create a big, wide frame, so to speak, through which you have a wonderful view of the trees and the canal. Every time we pass it, we stop for a moment to look at the wind, water and clouds. That connection with what is happening outside is golden, it makes you feel very open and free.

The beautiful course from outside to inside, through the front garden and covered steps, and then from downstairs to upstairs.... There is something cinematic about this setting. Yet it really is a house to live in. The house is comfortable and sensibly arranged: the proportions and location of the rooms are just right. A no-nonsense house with beautiful, authentic details and wonderful light. The architecture never intrudes and has a very subtle presence. For the next owners, we would like to give another tip: during summer garden parties, we invariably make pizzas in the AGA cooker. It is always an overwhelming success, a fine tradition of which we will forever keep blissful memories.
