Description

Rare architect's home by Georges Vandenbussche of Konstrukto on 12,000m2 bordering the Makegem woods.

The villa is a perfect translation of Konstrukto's progressive style. The sprawling, white-painted single-storey house has great attention to its sophisticated integration with nature. The placement of window surfaces is done with an eye on ultimate light perception, safeguarding views of the surroundings and maximum preservation of privacy.

Georges Vandenbussche cites Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen and Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra as sources of inspiration. Konstrukto's striking architecture has international allure and is once relevant within today's modern architectural visions.

Vandenbussche opts for a balanced ratio of closed and open surfaces, including large, façade-high glass sections for an optimal indoor-outdoor relationship. Large canopies serve on the one hand as shields from the hot summer sun and on the other hand give free play to the mild winter sun to enter the living space with its warm glow. Decorative elements in the facades are deliberately avoided. The interior plan - including customised furniture - is meticulously drawn up. The door fittings are by artist Roger Bonduel with whom Vandenbussche has often collaborated.

The current owners have renovated the house with great respect for the architecture and the spirit of the times. They have spared no expense to restore the house to its glory. They chose only the very best materials: tiles by Dominique De Simpel in Knokke, hand-made switches by Atelier Luxus, lighting by Modular, custom-made kitchen and built-in cupboards in exclusive materials such as wenge, mahogany and brass, fittings by Vola, bathrooms in "Nest stone" by the well-known Atelier Nest in Sint Martens Latem, Bega outdoor lighting, kitchen appliances by V-zug. In terms of techniques, too, they opted for ultimate luxury with a home theatre, an integrated music system in the entire house, a lovely swimming pond and a soothing hammam.

The domain borders the Makegem woods. You literally walk from your garden into the 200-hectare forest where you can linger for hours without a trace of asphalt. As a neighbour, you get a meadow with three horses. The region also offers fantastic opportunities for walking and cycling. And yet you are only twenty minutes away from Ghent!

Inhabiting and experiencing this villa gives you an instant feeling of tranquillity. The rooms feel perfect and nature is constantly present. A blissful experience.

The owners,

owner speaks out

During the week we are extremely busy, we often come into town and see a lot of people. The kids are at school in Ghent. And my husband and I lead busy lives. The house is a perfect counterpart to our hectic lives. On weekends, we unwind here 100%. We take long walks in the woods with our two children and the dogs, and then relax in the Hammam. We enjoy every moment of the blissful zen feeling in the house.

I am especially struck by the light here every time. I am very sensitive to the atmosphere of a room and Georges Vandenbussche has created every spot in this house to perfection. The dimensions of the rooms and the vistas into the house make the living experience exceptional.

In the kitchen, I have connection with the living space, the garden and the playroom. In the living room, you have a cosy reading/talking lounge and a TV area. The separate office is adjacent to the living room so you can also leave this open. The bedrooms form a separate unit. This also feels very nice. The sun rises in the bedroom. Lovely to wake up to. And then the sun turns to end at the terrace in front of the kitchen. Each view is unique and the house continues to surprise.
