Description

Rural, green and residential, this former farmhouse enjoys a special setting, just 700 metres from the heart of Hofstade, close to Mechelen and the Hofstade estate. Nature reserves, walking trails and cycling routes are nearby, with the Nieuwenhuizen castle estate as its neighbour.

This historic farmhouse dates from the second half of the 19th century.

To appreciate its unique layout, a visit is essential. The ground floor comprises an entrance hall, dining room and kitchen overlooking the garden, a charming raised sitting room above the cellar, a separate study with access to a second cellar, and a practical garage. Both cellars are reached via stairs beneath the original trapdoor.

Upstairs, a spacious landing with room for a desk leads to three bedrooms, a bathroom and a generous room with mezzanine, authentic wooden floorboards and a beautiful triangular window. A second staircase connects this room to the study below, ideal for combining home and work while keeping the professional space separate.

The south-facing garden features a mature oak, a ginkgo tree, a Japanese ornamental cherry and a beautiful grapevine climbing the façade. A delightful setting for outdoor living. Total plot size: 625 m².

Will you breathe new life into this charming semi-detached home?

owner speaks out

Fifty years ago, during the hot summer of 1976, my parents, sister and brother moved here. Two years later, I was born. It was the beginning of an idyllic time, surrounded by greenery, vast fields and woodland around the house. Sometimes, we could even hear the animals at Planckendael in the distance! The fireplace was often lit and, at weekends, Dad baked the most delicious bread in the kitchen’s scorching hot bread oven.
The garden was our playground: cycling tracks, a campsite, a football pitch… We could conjure up anything we wanted here. Life was good at “den Ambroos”. We had an absolutely wonderful time there. The location was ideal, too: school, scouts, hobbies and railway stations were all within cycling distance. Hofstade was a wonderful base for three growing children.
For us, and for the many people who regularly came to visit, this was the cosiest home imaginable. Even today, we still hear people say: “What a fantastic house that was!”
After half a century, our family is closing this rich chapter. With a touch of sadness, of course, but above all with hearts full of warm memories of this truly wonderful place. We hope the new owners will add another beautiful and meaningful chapter to its story!
