Description

Zurenborg. Once almost demolished, Cogels-Osylei is now one of Antwerp's most prestigious streets, with its mindblowing architecture and history. Major roads and Berchem station nearby. By tram or bike in 10 minutes in the city centre.

De Morgenster is a distinctively authentic bourgeois house with a soul. It was built for Mrs Taggenbroeck, the mistress of a German merchant. She lived mainly alone in this sublime house. Wherever you look in this 1904 gem, you will discover new details and special surprises everywhere. The magnificent central courtyard, the Art Nouveau façade designed by Jos Bascourt and the mosaic and reliefs in the hall by Antwerp sculptor Arthur Pierre are protected monuments.

The spacious living room with magnificent centre court opens onto the dining room with additional winter garden. Magnificent skylight, wall and ceiling paintings, herringbone parquet, marble fireplaces, moulures... The list of preserved authentic elements is endless. Single-glazed windows almost everywhere, crystal glass at the front.

Timeless, spacious kitchen with plenty of storage space and workshop. Flagstone terrace and a deep, sunny garden with views of surrounding trees: blissful sunrises guaranteed.

A bright bathroom on the 1st mezzanine floor and separate toilet. A little higher up, on the 1st floor are the 2 spacious bedrooms. The 2nd mezzanine is currently used as a dressing room, but could also serve as a bedroom. Finally, 2 more bedrooms on the 2nd floor and currently sauna or extra storage space.

A unique, sought-after piece of protected heritage in an exceptional Antwerp location.

owner speaks out

Even at the front façade, it was an instant hit: love at first sight. And the more rooms we saw, the more charmed we became. We bought the house 21 years ago out of love for the architecture and history it exudes. The house - and by extension the whole street - is actually one big chunk of history and art, a dream for an art historian like me.

I consider myself lucky every day to have such a unique environment to live in. I am therefore leaving here with pain in my heart. After all these years, I am still not tired of the splendour of the houses and the decorative details that continue to surprise.
