Description

What was once nicknamed 'limbo of the Brugse Poort' is now a fine street within walking distance of the historic centre, close to trendy restaurants Rizoom, Karoot, Woest, Superkelly... Also the Groenevallei park and public transport nearby. You can catch performances just around the corner, at the Vieze Gaste. In this district, which is renewing itself and therefore attracts many young families, you will find quite a few neighbourhood initiatives with a social or cultural slant.

Symmetrical, modernist facade with an austere front door. In the hall immediately two cool rooms, one on the right and one on the left: formerly the waiting rooms of this former doctor's office. The modernism was continued by the current owners in the choice of furniture and decoration, a successful combo.

Further on, the open inner hallway. From here, you can either turn right - to the former doctor's office - or straight on to the atmospheric dining room with access to the cosy kitchen and then the fine city patio. A touch of 'Parisian bistro' is never far away here.

On the 1st floor is the sun-drenched 2nd dining or living room with access to the 1st, spacious bedroom and bathroom. Conveniently, both bedroom and bathroom also have their own entrance from the hallway. Through a beautiful, double, half-glazed door, you can also access the living room. Hidden behind another door is another staircase, leading to the 2nd floor with 3 handsome bedrooms and a door to the sunny terrace - your own private island, high and dry above the city.

'The view of the stairwell with glass ceiling continues to charm us, especially when we switch on the original lights in the dome at night.'
The owners,

owner speaks out

'The living room is fantastic. The space and the view of the staircase hall with glass ceiling continues to charm us, especially when we switch on the original lamps in the dome in the evening. At the time, when I saw the property's advertisement with the photos of its interior, I was instantly sold. The monumental staircase hall, which is central to the house like a pillar of light, makes the house look inward and creates a pleasant circulation. The authenticity of the house, the well-preserved interior, including Belgian marble in the entrance hall, the original bathroom, the parquet.... There is still an awful lot of authenticity here, and you can feel it in every detail. The doctor's cross in the front door still refers to the original function of the house. The fact that you can sit outside on both the downstairs patio and the upstairs terrace is a big troeven. In fact, the roof terrace was already in the original design - an idea ahead of its time!'
