Description

In the heart of the Grand Beguinage, surrounded by 16th- and 17th-century buildings, just steps from Saint Rumbold’s Tower, with Broodbroeders and Studio Cluster around the corner. A lively yet remarkably peaceful neighbourhood.

This spacious historic residence, listed in the architectural heritage inventory, is currently divided into three apartments, with one apartment on each floor. The authorised planning status, however, is that of a single-family home. A unique opportunity to restore this characterful mansion to its original grandeur and elegance. The wooden exterior joinery was already fully renewed in 2022 and fitted with high-performance glazing.

Following the merger of two properties, the three floors acquired a stately 19th-century appearance. Authentic features such as the natural stone floor in the entrance hall, large double doors, fireplace and panelling have been preserved, while the façade tells the story of the building’s evolution through the centuries.

The ground floor comprises an entrance hall, a spacious front room with parquet flooring, guest toilet, living area with plank flooring, kitchen, utility room, bathroom and bedroom. The elegant staircase leads to the first floor with living area, kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom, separate toilet and beautiful authentic wide plank flooring. The second floor offers a generous open living space with open kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom and separate toilet. Here too, the original wide plank floors have been preserved, with a magnificent view of the church.

The finishing touch is the large west-facing garden with rear access via Nonnenstraat, ideal for safely storing bicycles.

The owner,

owner speaks out

This 19th-century corner house with three floors, located between Sint-Katelijnestraat and the Beguinage district, was created through the merger of two properties. It is a property with deeply rooted and tangible history. In the previous century, it served as a residence for the Oblate Fathers; in the 1980s, it was used for a period as a youth centre and later provided accommodation for students. From the 1990s onwards, the house continued to be rented out. Since 2019, the property has been designated as architectural heritage. We hope that the next owner will restore the exceptional historical value of this beautiful property to its former glory.
