Description

Surprisingly quiet in the epicentre of the old town, right in the historic core, with the Cathedral of Our Lady and Grote Markt just steps away from you and an array of shops, restaurants, cafés and iconic sights all around.

In the 16th century, the city of Antwerp used this weighing house, ‘the Waghetol’, to collect tolls for weighing goods. This iconic building, with blue stone baroque gate and neoclassical façade, is bursting with history. In 1923 it was converted into a printing office, in 1988 architect Eddy Posson renovated it into an architectural firm (Posson & Donck) and in 2004 it was transformed into four licensed residential units.

Each of these four flats has its own unique look and features. For instance, thanks to the large windows in the ground-floor three-bedroom duplex flat, you will enjoy the view of the lovely 50-square-metre courtyard garden. Upstairs, you will find two duplex flats, each with sleeping area and bathroom on the spacious mezzanine. The icing on the cake? The duplex penthouse at +3 and +4, with two bedrooms, bathroom, living space, kitchen and stunning roof terrace (SW) with views of the Cathedral.

Everywhere, voids, windows and exposed wooden beams provide light, space and character. The shared stairwell with lift takes you where you need to be. Finally, a phenomenal multipurpose room in the vaulted cellar (wine cellar, storage space, exhibitions, lectures, workshop ...).

Current rental income: €4,000/month (higher if refurbished).

owner speaks out

We made so many memories in this building. First it served as the office of our father, architect Eddy Posson. After it was divided into four residential units, we all lived here for a while too. The parties, art exhibitions and lectures we organised in the vaulted cellar have since become legendary.
