Description

In a cosy, quiet neighbourhood, a stone's throw from Ghent city centre. Attractive, hip neighbourhood with nice bars within cycling or walking distance, the perfect blend of the dynamics of the city centre within reach in a setting of peaceful greenery.

This 1968 house was built in concrete combined with large windows and Oregon pine wood, an exceptional design by architect Juliaan Lampens, the pride of Ghent, who describes his architecture as 'ordinary, but in an extraordinary way'.

The cute, walled patio on the front façade shields the house from the street. This is also where the office space is located, formerly intended as a kangaroo home. Note the original, dark-wood alcove with sitting or reclining sofa and bookshelf and the curved concrete wall, with which the architect refers to one of his great inspirations, Le Corbusier.

Steel spiral staircase in the hallway with guest toilet. Super sized living space with original Lampens-designed dining table and lovely view of the south-facing garden. Wood-burning stove, the authentic cupboards and lighting à volonté. In 2020, the kitchen was upgraded in collaboration with Fragmenture with colours and materials perfectly matching Lampens' work: stained pine combined with a warm-red concrete worktop.

At +1: the bathroom, 2 bedrooms with updated floors and bespoke joinery, and another multifunctional, open space, to be filled to your own liking. It is clear: every detail in this house has been extremely carefully preserved and cherished.

An architectural dream for fans of the brutalist style.

We knew immediately that this was a unique opportunity we couldn't pass up.
The owners,

owner speaks out

'At first we were wedded to living in the heart of Ghent, but when we saw this beautiful home in Sint-Amandsberg, near Campo Santo, we realised that here we could combine the best of both worlds: the dynamism of the city and the space and tranquillity of greenery.

The garden is wonderfully wild, a nice place to invite friends round the fire pit. If we do feel like the hustle and bustle of city life, we can be there in no time, after a nice bike ride along the New Docks. We immediately knew this was a unique opportunity we couldn't pass up.

The woman who used to live here with her four children has preserved the house with so much love and care that it looks almost as it did when it was built in 1968. We ourselves upgraded the windows, electricity, heating and kitchen to contemporary standards in 2020.'
