Description

SOLD - Modernist home by Jul De Roover in absolute TOP location.

Located near the Sint-Ludgardis school, in a quiet and tree-lined street, in front of the village of Schilde.

This is a protected monument designed in the post-war period by Antwerp architect Jul De Roover. His design philosophy is situated in the progressive anti-bourgeois ideals of the time. His inspiration from Scandinavian architecture is clearly reflected in the house. Austerity and honesty are central.

The well-thought-out yet simple floor plan is spatially structured by discrete contrasts in material, colour and texture. Jul De Roover uses flagstones, exposed brickwork, beech wood and window shutters, doors and built-in cupboards conceived as areas of colour that give substance to the house.

Layout: see floor plans. Glvl: entrance hall, spacious living room with fireplace corner, separate kitchen with adjoining dining room, office, TV room/playroom or first bdrm (with shower room), laundry room and indoor garage. 1st: bdk and four bdrms. 2nd (accessible via fixed stairs): three rooms in enfilade.

The garden and the house form one unit. The natural character of the surroundings is embraced in the planting and landscaping of the garden.

The house constitutes a beautifully preserved and rare realisation within the Belgian (ánd Antwerp) real estate heritage.

Provided it is renovated correctly, it is absolutely unique.

For your information: renovation of windows, roof, kk, electricity is essential. Heating already on natural gas.

Modernistische villa van Jul De Roover
Jul De Roover was my father's eldest brother.
Luc and Katrien, two of the seven owners,

owner speaks out

"Our parents had the house built themselves. Jul De Roover was my father's eldest brother. The austere architecture was instilled in us.

The house is special in all its simplicity. Clever and durable materials, wood against the façade - unique for that time! - lots of space and light. This is how we experienced the house.

We ourselves were with seven children. The house was always a cosy place. At the back of the garden, we made camps.

We went to school by bike just around the corner. It was a wonderful time! For children, you can't wish for better or more.

We hope someone puts love into the house again and makes it a cosy home.
