Description

Within walking distance of the historic city centre of Mechelen, with soon even more greenery, close to the restored Nekkerspoel railway station, shops, (high) schools, public transport, and the Brussels-Antwerp cycle route around the corner.

Sum up all the authentic elements of this magnificently preserved, neo-classical bourgeois residence dating from 1877? Too many to mention. You don't know where to look first: the lion-headed bell, marble floors, elegant staircase, wooden plancherry floors, magnificent interior doors, ceiling decorations, phenomenally elaborate rooms with gold leaf, ... A breathtaking leap back in time.

The property is laid out symmetrically: centrally the beautiful entrance hall with original wooden staircase to +2 and access to the basement. Both right and left 2 connected rooms with the original double doors. Kitchen with sunny dining area and lovely garden views, bathroom on the ground floor. The first floor has five rooms, four large ones and a smaller one, now library.

At +2 you currently find two large rooms and a smaller one. To the right is an open space up to the roof.

Behind the house is the huge south-facing garden (over 1,000m2) with large terrace, a charming outbuilding (36m2 + storey), lovely fruit trees and dozens of beautiful pollard willows. At the very end on the right is an additional building plot with garage, which opens onto Weidestraat no 9.

If this house could speak ... It has so many anecdotes and history - as far back as WWI.
Its owners,

owner speaks out

This house has been in our family for five generations and over a hundred years. Our great-grandparents bought it in 1907 and have always lived in it with two families. It really is a warm family home. On Christmas Eve, all the children and grandchildren stayed overnight and countless receptions and parties were held there. If this house could speak ... It has so many anecdotes and history - right down to WWI,.... The large garden is also blissful. The pollard willows there were still planted by our father. Literally everything you touch here tells a story.
