One of the nicest spots in the house? Without a doubt, the sun-filled kitchen with its lovely terrace and the wonderful garden view. The beautiful bay window also lets plenty of light into the office.
We bought the house because of its unique character: a stately “townhouse” with a large city garden – we were immediately sold. The centre of Ghent isn’t far away, but with the garden and park at the back, it feels like you’re living on the edge of a forest. We wake up to the sound of birds, and there’s no through traffic here – only residents – so it’s an extra peaceful place to live. During the renovation, our focus was entirely on maximizing natural light. We also made sure the authentic character of the house was preserved. From the start, it was obvious to us to keep the wooden floors, original hallway tiles, and so on, as intact as possible.
The neighbourhood offers a pleasant mix of young families and older residents. Within walking distance, you’ll find three parks with new playgrounds. Primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges and the university, are also within walking or cycling distance.
We already miss the spacious rooms, sunny garden, and enjoying aperitifs on our terrace… This special house, this unique centenarian, which we renovated with so much love and where we experienced countless wonderful moments.
