Description

Right in the historical centre, with the unique atmosphere of the Old Beguinage of St Elizabeth around the corner. This neighbourhood is nicknamed holy corner because no fewer than three churches surround it: an Anglican, Protestant and an Orthodox one, which you overlook from the house. Trendy restaurants Door 73, A Food Affair, De Lieve and Mémé Gusta are nearby, as are schools, crèche, Groenevalleipark, approach roads and tram 1. Fancy fresh pistolets and croissants? Well-known confectioner Marijn Coertjens is just a 5-minute walk away.

This beautiful middle-class house from 1875 was completely renovated at the beginning of the 20th century by none other than renowned Ghent architect Leon De Keyser. Since then, the house has been upgraded to contemporary standards.

Beautiful entrance hall with two doors on the left. The first door leads to the current office space on beautiful herringbone parquet, the second door leads to the kitchen. Adjacent to the office you find the first alon with impressive library. This place can be closed off from the spacious dining room thanks to the door in sublime stained glass: useful for a dinner with both adults and children. In the sunny, modern kitchen, the wooden window profiles add a warm, natural touch to the home. The city terrace is a nice place for a summer lunch or apero.

On the first floor you'll find the bathroom, and a second large living space. On the second floor, to the right, the first bedroom with a multifunctional hobby room next to it. The third floor has two more bedrooms.

Beautiful bourgeois house that breathes one and all history, in the Sint-Elisabethbegijnhof.

The owners,

owner speaks out

'Our home is located in the Sint-Elisabethbegijnhof, the oldest beguinage in Ghent. This neighbourhood just exudes history, so being allowed to live here is very special to us. We most enjoy our balcony on the 2nd floor, where we often settle down to admire the Ghent towers - a view that never gets boring.

We instantly fell in love with the many authentic elements in the house, especially the stained-glass windows in the stylish doors. Because of the play of light, the house has its unique spots at any time: in the morning, we enjoy the first rays of sunlight in the bay window on the 1st floor; by nightfall, the stained-glass windows are beautifully lit and it is great to relax in the library.

We deliberately looked for a house in the city centre, without the hustle and bustle of the city, and that golden combination can be found here: we live in the heart of Ghent and yet in a very quiet neighbourhood. This really is a village in the city, where everyone still knows each other. The peace and quiet of a village reigns here except... one weekend a year, during the Beguinage Celebrations. That's always a fantastic party, in which the whole neighbourhood participates.'
