Description

Exactly 300 steps from St Rombout's Tower. Shops and restaurants nearby. Bakery Broodbroeders even on the doorstep. Right in the historical heart and a Mobiscore of 90: it couldn't be more central. Moreover, since the redevelopment of the ramparts, the neighbourhood is even quieter and more residential. Parking is easy in the street or in the public car parks.

Townhouse Schildeke is architectural heritage from the 18th century.

In 2014, the property underwent a total renovation. This earned it bronze in the 2018 Urban Prize for Architectural Heritage.

The spacious and ready-to-use duplex flat can be accessed via the separate front door or along the ground-floor commercial space.

On the 1st floor, the stairs lead to the breathtaking kitchen with huge island and Falcon cooker. This is followed by a terrace where you can enjoy the morning sun without being overlooked. In front is the sitting room with fireplace, on warm wooden floors.

The second floor comprises two bedrooms and a bathroom with sink and shower. The master bedroom has a blissful freestanding bath. The second bedroom now serves as a dressing room. Magnificent ceiling beams provide an authentic atmosphere throughout.

A wonderful piece of heritage in the heart of Mechelen, sustainably restored and finished with the highest quality materials - a property that breathes history and radiates luxury.

owner speaks out

When I saw this historic property for sale at the time, I instantly fell in love. I enjoy living and working in this beautiful piece of heritage immensely. It is with regret in my heart that I am moving to larger premises to give my growing hair salon more space. I used to have a barbershop on Veemarkt, but since moving here, the salon has grown exponentially. Sint-Katelijnestraat is therefore a prime location. Close to the city centre and with plenty of parking nearby. Had it been possible, I would definitely have stayed. In a few steps I am at all my favourite restaurants. And of course the charm of the house is also enormous, with the wooden beams, blissful kitchen and wonderful combination of authentic and new elements.
