Description

At cycling and walking distance from Kalmthout-Dorp, close to Arboretum and Kalmthoutse Heide, a blissful place for hikers and nature lovers. Kalmthout once grew up around the little green square that is right on your doorstep. Charming bonus: this is a starting point of the famous Camino to Santiago de Compostella.

The architects who took this functional 1950s family home in hand made the most of every square metre. The industrial look they chose for it adds cool, modern character. The spacious kitchen is the first thing that catches the eye when you step inside: a full-size kitchen island, lots of bespoke cabinetry, seamlessly recessed ceiling spotlights and the guest toilet, cleverly hidden in the cupboard wall.

The side door opens onto the terrace, where you can enjoy breakfast in the morning sun. At the back, the XL window automatically slides open. This brings you into the lovely garden and extends the indoor living space with extra indoor-outdoor feeling. At the back of the garden, you will find another parking space, bike shed and storage for garden stuff, with super handy back entrance for those coming home by bike or bringing lots of groceries.

The stairs to the first floor take you to the three bedrooms, one of which is currently set up as an office. Here too, the rooms are bathed in an oasis of light thanks to the many windows and glass walls. Original and useful detail: lots of storage space is hidden in the steps of the staircase. Spacious bathroom with bathtub, shower and washbasin.

‘Aperitifs, entertaining guests, cooking or celebrating - the kitchen island is the absolute centrepiece of our home.’
The owners,

owner speaks out

‘We moved from Antwerp to Kalmthout to have more green, quiet and space for our children. Kalmthout was a logical choice, because it is a beautiful village with a range of schools and you can get to the centre of Antwerp by train in half an hour. When we first moved here, a brass band played on the square and there were shells in the street, the little square in front of our door being a starting point of the Camino Santiago de Compostella.

We celebrated every birthday party here extensively. Then we put the giant island chock full of cakes, delicious! Whether we are having aperitifs, receiving guests, cooking or celebrating - the kitchen island really is the absolute centre of our home. Sooner or later, everyone always ends up around it, standing or sitting.

On the side terrace, it is nice to have breakfast in the morning sun. When the sun shines through the wonderful pink glass window in the morning, a beautiful glow shines into the kitchen.... Magnificent. We also like to open the industrial window on the terrace - that way, inside becomes outside, and vice versa. And the handy side entrance with parking is just super practical when you come home with groceries or other stuff... A beautiful and thoughtfully decorated house - it will be missed!’
