In peaceful Oplinter, a rural village near Tienen, you live surrounded by greenery and sweeping views across the landscape. Behind the house, the garden and extensive meadow offer plenty of space and privacy. Outdoor living is an essential part of life here.
Behind the brick façade of this house, built in 1911, an unexpected interior unfolds. The renovation by LAVA architecten in 2014 introduced a distinctly contemporary approach. Raw concrete, exposed brickwork, wood and black metal balustrades define its character. Both the original house and the new interventions remain clearly visible.
The entrance immediately sets the tone. Inspired by the shape of a tree, the staircase connects the floors within a tall, open space. Concrete structures, wooden steps and glimpses between levels give this area a character of its own. Light enters from above, emphasising the height. A cloakroom and guest toilet complete the entrance.
In the living area, tall windows bring in abundant daylight. A wooden floor and white ceiling beams add warmth, while the dark fireplace wall creates a distinctive accent. The sitting and dining areas flow into one another. The adjoining kitchen features a black island with seating and a wide window overlooking the greenery.
The first floor has three bedrooms and a shower room. The second floor is fully fitted out with a bedroom, dressing room and private bathroom. The basement accommodates a laundry room, utility room and additional storage.
There is plenty to discover outdoors too. The 5,512 m² plot includes a garden, extensive meadow, swimming pond and large covered terrace. Views across the surrounding landscape give the outdoor space an open feel. The existing barns provide additional space.
A home for those who appreciate buildings with character, thoughtful spatial design and generous green surroundings.
