Daughter, Britt, recounts:
I had already left home when my parents moved in, but I vividly remember that they threw many legendary parties here. Dinners, parties with staff, art happenings, music nights for a select audience with Dez Mona or other great artists... The good life, so to speak. Mum enjoyed organising all that and they are all fantastic memories. As purebred art collectors, my parents also indulged themselves immensely in the central room on the 3rd floor. Not to mention the first-class view of the fireworks over the Scheldt on New Year's Eve.
Dad had his office downstairs, where he worked through many a night. But once he took the lift upstairs, there was nothing but peace and quiet. The view over the Scheldt, the clouds, the silence... That was his dream, 100% enjoyment. Here my parents were in heaven.
By the way, the loft is right in front of the turning point of those gigantic cruise ships that regularly call at Antwerp. Then suddenly it got dark in the living room and if we looked aside, we could see a cruise ship making its turn on the Scheldt. Super-impressive! Extra special for us, because my grandfather, my father's father, was captain on the long circumnavigation. This loft has been a very special place for my parents, for me and for a lot of other people.
