House Dr. De Beir: unmistakably an icon, in the heart of Knokke. On the corner of Dumortierlaan and Lippenslaan lies 't Zwart Huis, 500m² of practice space with living quarters and ample parking for 4-5 cars.
In 1924, arch. Huib Hoste was commissioned by Dr. De Beir to design his doctor's residence. Since 2001, this phenomenal building has been classified as a protected monument. With this house, Hoste created the prime example of modernism in Flanders, inspired by the architectural principles of the Nederlandse Stijl. For this building, he experimented with cinder or ash concrete and light played a crucial role. Geometric functionalism at its best! 
Entrance hall, cloakroom/waiting room, former consulting rooms and service rooms of Dr. De Beir are found on the ground floor, along with the kitchen, first bathroom and access to parking and basement - perfect for housing offices. 
On the second floor came the dining area, living room and study with large, south-facing terrace, second kitchen area and two (office) rooms. Finally, on the second floor you will find another five (office) rooms (formerly sleeping, playing and guest room) and the second bathroom. The sublime geometric stained-glass dome above the central staircase links all the rooms together.
In 1999-2000, the original appearance was restored in collaboration with painter and interior designer Sevranckx, including the black painted facade and plinths in red Boom tiles. Also the original built-in cupboards remained
