Description

In a pleasant and quiet neighbourhood, a stone's throw from the centre of Ghent. Attractive and trendy neighbourhood with nice bars accessible by bike or on foot, the perfect mix of city centre dynamics at hand in a quiet green setting.

This 1968 house was built in concrete with large windows and Oregon pine, an exceptional design by Ghent pride Juliaan Lampens, who describes his architecture as "ordinary, but in an extraordinary way".

The beautiful walled patio on the front façade protects the house from the street. This is also where you will find the office space, which used to house kangaroos. Note the original dark wood alcove with a sitting or reclining bench and bookcase, and the curved concrete wall, alluding the architect to one of his great inspirations, Le Corbusier.

Steel spiral staircase in the hallway with guest toilet. Superb living space with original Lampens-designed dining table and lovely views of the south-facing garden. Wood-burning stove, authentic cupboards and plenty of lighting. In 2020, the kitchen was renovated in collaboration with Fragmenture with colours and materials that perfectly reflect Lampens' work: stained pine combined with a warm red concrete worktop.

On the plus side: the bathroom, 2 bedrooms with renovated floors and custom-made woodwork, and another multifunctional open space, to be divided up as you see fit. It is clear that every detail of this house has been preserved and pampered with the utmost care.

An architectural dream for lovers of the brutalist style.

We knew immediately that this was a unique opportunity we couldn't pass up.
The owners,

owner speaks out

'At first we were wedded to living in the heart of Ghent, but when we saw this beautiful home in Sint-Amandsberg, near Campo Santo, we realised that here we could combine the best of both worlds: the dynamism of the city and the space and tranquillity of greenery.

The garden is wonderfully wild, a nice place to invite friends round the fire pit. If we do feel like the hustle and bustle of city life, we can be there in no time, after a nice bike ride along the New Docks. We immediately knew this was a unique opportunity we couldn't pass up.

The woman who used to live here with her four children has preserved the house with so much love and care that it looks almost as it did when it was built in 1968. We ourselves upgraded the windows, electricity, heating and kitchen to contemporary standards in 2020.'
