Master Meubel

Master Meubel originated almost half a century ago, when the parents of current manager Goele Vermeeren established a manufacturing and wholesale business in homemade furniture. The business also included three craft workshops. Today, thanks to its own furniture workshop, upholstery workshop and spray-painting workshop, complemented by the curtain workshop, Master can continue to meet all its customers' needs.

In 1985, the company expanded with the purchase of the Sint-Antonius Meubel building in Turnhout. "That was specifically designed by modernist architect Lou Jansen as a furniture shop," Goele explains. "There were hardly any providers of exclusive design in Belgium at the time; we have an area of more than 7,000 square metres available. Our audience realises the value of design pieces that last a lifetime."

Master Furniture's design team is happy to assist architects in the development of their projects. The building regularly hosts team-buildings with guided tours, workshops and behind-the-scenes visits. A specially designed "Master Game" allows for playful learning about the furniture masters and architecture of The Turnhout School. "We think it is important to share our knowledge of materials and products," explains art director Filip Versmissen. "This is how designers come up with new and original ideas."

In 2019, Master took over the unique Vitra Partner Store Antwerp at the request of the design brand itself. "We share our target audience and offerings," says Goele. "Around the same time, we introduced a system of furniture leasing. Delivered material is given a second life." Recently, Espoo also joined Master in the well-known Antwerp Kloosterstraat. The more budget-friendly offer and the clientele's openness to upcycling and refurbishing are again opening up new opportunities. Since May 2023, you can also find an Espoo shop-in-shop in the Master Meubel showroom.
