Description

Nestled peacefully between the historic castles of Bossenstein and Broechemhof, opposite Bossenstein Golf Course, and close to local shops, Lier and Schilde, lies this beautiful, partly walled corner plot of around 2,600 m². It is situated near access roads to the E34 and E313, so you can get on the road quickly.

This 18th-century Bisthoeve, a tenant farm of the Broechemhof estate until 1948, is listed as unclassified heritage. It used to consist of three parts: a stable-barn; the farmhouse in the middle; and a shepherd’s cottage, now a bedroom with an upstairs room. The farmstead was built around 1788, on top of much older foundations.

Large gate with a reclaimed beam, inscription: ‘P. V. DOORN 1788’, the carpenter’s signature. What is now the kitchen was originally the ‘winter room’ or the drawing room. Authentic fireplace, clad in red tiles from Boom, salvaged from the original floor. Today, this entire room is paved with Tournai stone from the old church of Wijnegem. To the left of the fireplace: the alcove where the farmer’s wife slept, with a view through to the animals in the stable.

The farmhouse was restored between 1980 and 1989. Around 2000, a granny flat was fitted out in the former barn, and in 2020 the façade underwent a complete, water-repellent restoration. The barn roof was insulated in 2023. Today, some parts are in need of an upgrade, but with a total of 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, you have plenty of options to make this place, brimming with history, your own.

About 40 years ago, we discovered this beautiful 18th-century farmhouse and decided to breathe new life into it. Its history, stretching back over 200 years, unfolded before our very eyes. The old lady blossomed, and we revelled in her authentic, festive rooms, as well as her contemplative silence within and the lovely garden surrounding her.
