After 20 years of living and working in the United Arab Emirates, I bought this property hull and then had it completely renovated. Only the outer walls and roof remained standing. I wanted to make the beautiful surroundings even more beautiful, so I resolutely chose high-quality materials to do full justice to the house and its unique location.
The location on the Dijle, with a view of one of the most beautiful river bends in the city of Mechelen, was the decisive factor. From the roof terrace, I look out on the Beguinage church, the beautifully lit Sint-Romboutstoren, the sixty-year-old star dome on the Scheppers Institute, the beautiful houses, trees and gardens on the other side and visitors sailing into Mechelen on their yachts... A blissful sight! Also nice and convenient that you can easily walk or cycle to the city centre, the railway station or even the Zennegat. So why am I moving away from such a fantastic place? After more than 40 years in Africa, the Middle and Far East, adventure still beckons again.... I will return to visiting faraway places, albeit in peace and quiet, but for that kind of life, a smaller pied-à-terre in Belgium is more appropriate. So this unique property becomes vacant, and someone else can enjoy it to the full.
