Description

In a super quiet, green lane with beech trees, near the village of Brasschaat. Hop on your bike and ten minutes later you can do shopping. 'Speelbos Kattekensberg' at the end of the street is the place for playdates or a jog.

In 1979-1980, this post-modernist house was built by the current owners in collaboration with architect Kris Vos. With a smart, functional and even then future-oriented floor plan, it became a fantastic family home that grew organically with its occupants.

In 2011, the house received a thorough renovation, including aluminium windows and high-efficiency heating. Of course, the split-level concept, which ensures light, openness, cosiness and connected spaces, remained untouched.

Driveway in front, indoor garage for car, bikes and laundry room. The blue stone floor in the entrance hall continues into the open-plan kitchen, which was redesigned in 2011 and equipped with Gaggenau appliances, Quooker tap and Novy induction stove. Lunch is served on the raised terrace overlooking the large, deep garden (approx. 200m2) with fresh vegetables from your own vegetable garden at the back.

A few stairs higher, connected to the kitchen, is the cosy living room on parquet floor with a lovely fireplace. The first floor: office/bedroom and master bedroom with en suite bathroom. On the second floor you will find the new bathroom (2015) and two more bedrooms. The attic floor is a real children's paradise, with extra play and storage space.

Handsome architecture in this characterful and move-in-ready home, in a fantastic location in Brasschaat. Who feels attracted?

In consultation with visionary architect Kris Vos, we had one clear goal in mind: a child-friendly home where everyone finds their own place to grow.
The owners,

owner speaks out

Back then, when we were expecting our third child, we started looking for a new place to live. We instantly fell in love with this spot in the Emmalei with its beautiful trees. This impressive beech avenue merges seamlessly into the forest of the 'Kattekensberg'. Then followed many fascinating conversations with architect Kris Vos - an intensely rich experience. His ideas were worked out in sketches and preliminary designs until we could knock off the final plan. Always in consultation and with one clear goal in mind: a child-friendly home where everyone could find their own place to grow. We still look with amazement at this already future-oriented house with energy-conscious approach, where every square centimetre was used to the full. Talk about a visionary architect!
When the children were out of the house and the grandchildren followed in quick succession, we started a thorough renovation, without compromising the original concept. The house was opened up a bit more and the kitchen island became the heart of the house, for cosy aperitifs. The grandchildren amused themselves for hours upstairs, where they were given a play floor.
This house grew with us at every stage of our lives. Its openness and security immediately appealed to us. The terrace, garden and vegetable garden provided the necessary rest after a busy working day and the nearby forest and beautiful surroundings also allowed us to look at nature with wonder and enjoy it to the fullest. Today, we are ready for something new, but we hope the cool play floor will once again allow happy children's voices to echo.
