Maker Architecten

MAKER architects makes way for design and design research. We are aware that architecture and building require effort, time, resources and energy, and that they have an impact on the environment. We want to handle these precious things with care, which requires critical questioning and thoughtful decisions.

We like the story behind things and discourse built naturally. We think context sets the pace and discovery is part of every project. We avoid rhetoric and whimsical gestures in the creative process. We like to create and we are rigorous in detail.

Architecture is bespoke work. Architecture is not a serial product. Architecture is searching for solutions to sharply defined questions, but it is also more: architecture can only come about if the question can also be carefully analysed to discover initially unseen possibilities.

The creative process questions, dissects, explores the ultimate possibilities of a programme and a place. This place is often more than the physical environment alone. It also includes the cultural-historical background, production and manufacturing processes, infrastructures, natural environmental factors, the socio-economic context,... The creative process launches proposals, checks, surprises, dares to delete, dialogues and represents with images, impressions, diagrams, data, fragments, associations, ... to finally build a powerful proposal with an intrinsic self-evidence - a proposal that creates new possibilities rooted in the analysis of context and programme - a proposal that generates spatial quality.
