Dirk Engelen, the architect, emphasises the subtle difference between the outside, which is simple and appropriate within its surroundings, and the inside, where the house comes to life. The glass side façade design, inspired by a conservatory, provides playful light and adds character without overdoing it. At the back, the house shows its true complexity with different levels and spaces that blend effortlessly.

The winter garden plays an essential role as a thermal buffer between inside and outside, but also acts as a filter between different worlds. Here, the transition between nature and living spaces becomes fluid and natural, with an eye for comfort and functionality.

The use of split levels ensures that there is always a connection between the different living functions - from kitchen and living room to sleeping and working areas. This design choice not only ensures interaction between residents, but also a smooth transition between indoor spaces and the garden. All this is executed in the same material, with concrete forming the basis to create tranquillity and unity.

The choice of cool materials such as concrete is offset by warm, natural wood accents. A continuous wall of cabinets made of different types of wood connects the kitchen to the dressing room and adds warmth and personality to the interior.
