“The house initially did not appeal to me architecturally, but I immediately saw its huge potential.”

A nice street width and an attractive deep garden finally won him over, inspiring him to opt for axes of light, which would reach from the front door across the water feature to the pear trees. 

The sense of spaciousness here is enhanced by the use of light colours, high ceilings and ditto doors.

The front facade, rear facade, new extension and layout have been completely changed. The only thing that has remained in this house is the concrete structure.

“The quiet location in the historical centre of Mechelen is the best asset of our house. Here you really do imagine yourself on holiday every day.”
“While searching for the right materials, we came into contact with an antique dealer. That man had a nice stock of old cheese boards lying around, which I fell for like a log.”

Those beautiful, old cheese boards can now be found on the 3 floors of the home. 

The favourite place for Paul? The studio, the only place in the house where he tolerates chaos. This is where he spends every day creating paintings, drawings, preliminary designs and plans.
