KOVE's interior designers transformed this Nylonfabrik, where nylon stockings used to be made, into their personal living and working quarters. This place reflects the importance of ‘feeling at home’ in an architectural space.

Typical lofts are characterised by their open spaces, high ceilings and an industrial feel. Materials such as brick, steel and concrete, once the core of factory buildings, are now proudly displayed as a nod to the past. Large windows provide abundant light, while the open-plan layout encourages a sense of freedom and creativity.

What began as the search for more space eventually led Koenraad and Veerle to this particular property. They once worked in a modest eighty-square-metre interior design office in Temse, but soon felt it was time for something bigger. During their search, they stumbled upon this property - a gigantic space, which initially seemed unfeasible. Still, it stuck in the back of their minds.

After a long search and hesitation, they found their way back to this building. And then they knew: this will be our new project.

Koenraad immediately had a clear vision. He sees how you can structurally transform a space to add value. One thing was certain: they wanted to keep the industrial elements of the building, such as the steel poutrels and concrete ceilings. They are the heart of the space. Koenraad and Veerle's personal style revolves around warm minimalism: they balance the robust elements of concrete and steel with warm touches, such as the wooden floors, to create a sense of cosiness and homeliness.

“For us, living in a loft is not just living, it is living together. It is about sharing space and the experience that comes with it.”

One of the biggest challenges was to make this huge loft livable and, above all, energy efficient. Investments were made in insulation, triple glazing, a heat pump and more than eighty solar panels. This ensured an energy certificate A - a huge achievement for such a large, open space.

What makes a loft special for Koenraad and Veerle is its openness. They didn't want to create traditional rooms with walls, but rather maintain flow and spaciousness. Between the living space and the office, they solved this with a custom-made, coloured cupboard as a subtle partition. In the sitting area, a fireplace element provides atmosphere and warmth, and by raising the floor slightly, you get an intimate space without losing the open character.

Meanwhile, this property has already been sold through Immodôme.
